Story of Meregini Charles
Two years ago, I noticed some pain around the lower side of my left anterior thoracic region and a general decline in my health. I went to see a cardiologist, who had all the necessary tests and physical examinations conducted on me. It was discovered that I had anemia and an increase in my BUN and creatinine levels. Further tests by a nephrologist revealed that I had polycystic kidney disease that was fast resulting in kidney failure. Some months after, my kidneys failed completely and I was placed on hemodialysis. Dialysis was stressful and time-consuming. I had electrolyte imbalances, fatigue and I knew I just wasn’t getting any better. My nephrologist told me that I had to have a kidney transplant and I needed to find a donor.
Fortunately, I was introduced to Mr. Innocent, an altruistic donor who came right in the nick of time and saved my life! He donated his kidney to me on the 8th of December 2017. This gift has shown me the impact one person can make on someone else’s life. I’ve been given a new life and I feel a lot better now. Most importantly, I now have all kinds of physical opportunities I thought I could never have again. I have time to spend with my family and friends. It’s been wonderful. I’ll forever be grateful to my donor. I’m alive today because of his ultimate gift.
